WHO ARE WE?

This ancient, luminous, and unique civilisation, from every perspective, was at risk of fading into obscurity, leaving scattered and unorganised traces incapable of forming a coherent historical narrative or meeting the inquiries of future historians. It is our hope that their children and grandchildren will continue to nurture these friendships and maintain the sense of being neighbours.

Our Story

Our work—collecting objects, testimonies, documents, written records, books, manuscripts, photographs, and depictions of daily life, monuments, and people—has been laborious yet deeply rewarding. Even sharing the European Museum of the Year Award in 1997 with the Museum of Anatolian Civilisations in Ankara underscores the undivided and unified cultural heritage and history of Anatolia (Cappadocia).

However, the journey ahead remains long for all of us who love, respect, and strive for the preservation and dissemination of this unique culture. The path is filled with sharp turns and obstacles, and the end of the road may never come into view. It resembles the limits of the universe: the closer we approach, the farther they recede. Nevertheless, together, as members and friends of the Cappadocian Studies Center around the world, we can persevere. With passion, we can expand knowledge, illuminate the unseen corners of history, and contribute with respect and dedication to humanity and its creations.
